CHENNAI: Five Sabarimala pilgrims died in a road accident in Pudukkottai. The accident took place after a lorry rammed into a teashop in the area creating havoc.19 were injured in the incident.

The pilgrim group was travelling in two vans and one car. The accident happened on the road connecting Pudukkottai with Rameswaram when the group halted their vehicle to drink tea. The lorry carrying cement rammed into the tea shop after hitting several vehicles.

The police and fire force teams immediately reached the spot and did some arduous work to dismantle the vehicle and take out the body. The injured have been admitted to the hospital. It is reported that a three-year-old child is among the injured.
