governerum-thoppiyum-dram

KOCHI: Kerala Natak Samiti is annoyed at the ban received for the drama ‘Governorum Thoppiyum’ which the Samiti termed as unacceptable. The organization said they will seek legal help after the court opens after the winter holidays.

According to Samiti, in the order banning the drama, the RDO did not mention the reason that led to the decision. In an unfettered move, Samiti said they won’t bring any changes to the drama to suit the interest of higher-ups in the office. The committee also stated that the play would be brought to the same venue with the approval of the court.

Shabu K Madhavan, district secretary of Natak Samiti, said that the drama has no connection with Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and will be played at the same venue where it was earlier planned. He also clarified that the play is a translation of a German story. Meanwhile, the DYFI Kochi Block Committee led a protest march to the sub-collector's office demanding the withdrawal of the ban imposed on the drama 'Governorum Thoppiyum'. The protest was organized under the leadership of DYFI Ernakulam district secretariat member Amal Sunny and block president Sanchez Rafael.

As part of the Carnival celebrations in Kochi, the play 'Governorum Thoppiyum' is going to be presented by the Natak Kochi Regional Committee. Alleging that it is an attempt to insult the Governor, the BJP office-bearers came forward with a complaint against the play. The sub-collector's intervention was based on the complaint.
