THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A review petition has been filed against the Supreme Court verdict cancelling the re-appointment of Kannur University Vice Chancellor Dr Gopinath Ravindran. The state government has approached the court requesting a review of the previous order of the Supreme Court.
The appointment of Gopinath Ravindran was canceled by the Supreme Court on the 30th of last month. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud delivered the judgment on the petitions challenging the re-appointment. The Supreme Court cancelled the High Court judgment upholding the reappointment. The judgment statement of the court said that the guilty judgment of the High Court has been cancelled.
A heavy protest was raised against the re-appointment of Gopinath Ravindran, who had passed 60 years of age. Accepting the recommendation of the state government, Dr. Gopinath Ravindran was reappointed by the governor for four years. Dr. Premachandran Keezhoth, assistant professor of the English department of the university, and Shino P. Jose, member of the academic council, approached the Supreme Court against this.
