By canceling the long-term contract to buy power from private companies, a situation to buy power at a relatively high price was created. During the UDF government, Aryadan Mohammed's power ministry signed a 25-year contract for buying electricity st Rs 4.29 per unit. In the current situation, this agreement was not only beneficial for the board but also for customers. But the proposal of the Regulatory Commission was to cancel the agreement as it didn't follow the procedures. All those with sanity said that the Commission has canceled sever-year running contract without any consultation. Obviously, it was cleart that electricity cannot be brought from anywhere at that rate in a new contract. This was realized after revoking the old contract and trying for a new one. The new tenders quoted an amount between Rs 7.80 per unit to Rs 8.88 per unit. The Regulatory Commission then asked the government to restore the reports that were canceled.

The only way is to buy power from outside the state in a fixed quantity to meet the state's increasing power demand. If the state state doesn't get enough rain, the crisis could get severe. Fortunately, the state got strong rainfall while facing a similar crisis. We still have not yet utilized the full potential of non-conventional resources, which can fix the current issue. Many houses are already turning towards solar power. However, the solar project is not moving at the right pace due to weak policies and board's eye on profit. For the last few months, consumers are paying the surcharge so that the board can meet its pension liability. Hopefully, the consumers are saved from additional burden by reinstating the old power purchase contract.
