NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi with his blend of development and religious nationalism is eying nothing short of a hat trick win in 2024, while the Congress-led INDIA bloc should need a resurgence to climb back from the electoral trouncing suffered earlier in the Hindi heartland.
BJP has unofficially kick-started the election campaign with PM Modi’s Saturday visit to Ayodhya. Successful welfare schemes with the label ‘Modi Ki Guarantee’ and a slew of other development projects coupled with the consecration of the historic Ram Temple on January 22 will embellish BJP's chances for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
PM Modi has already vowed to change Ayodhya to a top-tier city in India. BJP promises India a period of development conforming to the ethos of religious nationalism. This theme has so far worked wonders for the saffron party and 2024 will be no different, say analysts.
In 2019, BJP won 303 seats with 37 per cent votes, but this time it is targeting 50 per cent votes and a higher majority. BJP aims for anywhere between 350-400 seats in 2024 elections. Just like the party selection in the three Hindi heartland states, the BJP will continue surprising all with candidate selection in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
Though it lost Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh, Congress managed to win the states of Himachal, Karnataka and Telangana, which is a consolation for the All India Front. However, the opposition alliance has not started talking about seat distribution.
Rahul Gandhi's Imphal-Mumbai Bharat Nyaya Yatra starting on January 14 is the last straw attempt from the opposition to bring 2024 in their favour.
