KOCHI: Kerala Catholic Bishops' Council (KCBC) has strongly criticized Minister Saji Cherian for his comments disparaging bishops attending Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Christmas celebration. Father Jacob Palappilly, KCBC's spokesperson expressed dismay stating that the Christian community felt offended by Cherian's statements.

Palappilly emphasized the importance of responsible speech from those in influential positions and criticized Cherian for his lack of respect towards the Constitution. He highlighted that attending a party doesn't signify political alignment as the bishops attended the PM's meeting to discuss Christian community services in the country not endorsing a particular political ideology.

Furthermore, KCBC highlighted that it's a part of Christian commitment to engage in discussions concerning national service, and the negative remarks by Cherian were not acceptable to all Christians in Kerala.

Minister Saji Cherian had criticized bishops for their attendance at the BJP's event, alleging their oversight of the Manipur issue while enjoying the banquet. KCBC firmly responded to Cherian's criticism, advocating for a more respectful and inclusive approach from ruling parties towards religious leaders' engagements.
