IDUKKI: Prominent film stars have come up announcing assistance to the student farmers who dealt a heavy blow after their 13 cows died the other day due to food poisoning. Actor Jayaram was the first to provide financial assistance to student farmers Mathew and Thomas. The actor met the student farmers in person and handed over a cheque for Rs 5 lakhs. Following Jayaram, Prithviraj and Mammootty said they will support the farmers financially. The student farmers would receive one lakh from Mammootty and two lakhs from Prithviraj.
"I have cattle as well. I have won the award for the best Dairy Farmer from the Kerala government twice. When I'm not filming, I spend most of my time on the farm. Six years ago, I also went through a similar situation. 24 cows died in a single day. All I could do was sit and weep. The doctors said that the cows died due to food poisoning. But we have no idea how the cows were poisoned," Jayaram said after meeting the student farmers.
Speaking to the media, student farmer Mathew said that he did not expect to receive this much help. He added that his family and he will raise cows with greater energy.
Meanwhile, ministers Chinchu Rani and Roshy Augustine met the family in person. The ministers said that all necessary help would be provided and Mathew and his family should not be disappointed. The government will provide 5 cows to the family. Moreover, fodder for one month will also be provided free of charge. The minister also said that further assistance will be decided in the cabinet meeting tomorrow. Milma will provide Rs 45,000 today.
