ALAPPUZHA: A young man’s hand was amputated after he tried boarding a moving train in Kayamkulam on Tuesday evening. Ravi, a native of Nagpur, was on his way to Pune from Thiruvananthapuram, travelling in Nizamuddin Express. When the train stopped at Kayamkulam station, Ravi stepped down to buy a bottle of drinking water.
However, the Superfast Express resumed the journey garnering speed suddenly when Ravi was still buying the bottle. This made the Nagpur native attempt a run and while trying to place his legs on the train steps, he faltered and his hand went straight between the train and the platform.
Locals and security officials rushed and moved Ravi to safety but his hand got severed in the meantime. Ravi is now admitted to Vandanam Medical College and is being treated. His amputated hand was also brought to the hospital.
