KOCHI: DCC president Mohammed Shiyas, Hibi Eden MP, MLAs Uma Thomas, TJ Vinod and Anwar Sadat have been booked by the police under attempted rioting for blockading Palarivattam station to free Youth Congress workers who were arrested for waving a black flag to the Chief Minister. 75 people who can be identified have also been added as accused.

Corporation councillors Deepti Mary Varghese, VK Minimol, Zakir Tammanam, KPCC General Secretary Abdul Muttalib, Youth Congress State General Secretary Abin Varki, Thambi Subramaniam and others are also on the accused list.

The FIR states that under the leadership of Mohammed Shiyas, they gathered at the station and threatened to release the arrested persons, and obstructed public transport by blocking the road and vehicles. Unlawful assembly, attempted rioting and obstruction of public transport have been added as offences.

Blockade till 2.10 am

Youth Congress workers were arrested by the Palarivattam police for waving a black flag at the Chief Minister's vehicle, which was going to participate in the Navakerala Sadas at Thrikkakara. Municipal councillor Zakir Tammanam and the police reached an agreement to bail them out of the station, but they refused to let them go. Under the leadership of Mohammed Shiyas, the blockade of the station began at 7 pm. The police also announced that the activists will not be released after the non-bailable section was added for obstructing the police. With this, the protesters blockaded Palarivattam Junction.

In the discussion held by the leaders, an agreement was reached around 12.20 am to produce the members before the magistrate. The Magistrate granted bail to the activists who completed their medical examination at the Ernakulam General Hospital and were produced at his residence in Kadavanthra around 1.30 am. The blockade ended at 2.10am when the activists arrived in front of the station.
