THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Based on the High Court's earlier directive, health standing committee have decided to introduce feeding spots for stray dogs. So far, 32 people have expressed their interest in establishing a feeding centre for stray dogs in the city.

The High Court's earlier directive was to introduce feeding spots and passes for feeders to feed stray dogs. The decision to set up feeding centres was after considering that dogs become more aggressive when they do not get food. The municipality will regularly check whether the centres are functioning efficiently.

Feeding spots will be established avoiding public places like hospitals, schools, bus stands, etc. The Standing Committee on Health Affairs will determine the places. Health inspectors have been tasked to inspect the place in detail and check for crowding. 194 places have been found in principle, starting from Manaveeyam, near the museum, near the Vazhuthacaud forest department office, etc.

The centres were found with the cooperation of organizations like People for Animals and Community Dog Breeders. These will be checked for suitability for feeding spots. Officials informed that the final decision on feeding spots will be after consulting the ward councillors.
