CAPE TOWN: Dramatic scenes unfolded on day 1 of the second India-South Africa Test between India and South Africa at the Newlands Cricket Ground in Cape Town. After winning the toss, the Proteas opted to bat and were bowled out for a record-low score of just 55 runs in 23 overs. Siraj was the pick of the bowlers by taking South African wickets while conceding only 15 runs. Mukesh Kumar took two wickets without conceding any runs in two overs and Bumrah took two wickets for 25 runs.

It was not easy going for India as well. At one stage, India were 153 for 4 but were bundled out for the same score. Seven players, including opener Yashaswi Jaiswal, failed to open their accounts. Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, Ravindra Jadeja, Bumrah, Siraj and Prasidh Krishna were out for zero while tailender Mukesh Kumar remained unbeaten without getting any runs. Only Kohli (46), skipper Rohit (39) and Gill (36) had a decent outing with the bat.

In the second innings, South Africa batting behind with a hint of collapse as they lost three wickets within 50 runs. Proteas captain Elgar (12), who is playing his last test match, Tony De Souy (1) and opener Stubbs (1) are back in the pavilions. Mukesh took two wickets and troubled the hosts once again. At the end of the first day, South Africa have scored 62 runs for the loss of three wickets.
