THRISSUR: "My mothers, my sisters..." Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who started his speech in Malayalam amid the clamour of more than 100,000 women gathered at Thekkinkadu Maidan, laid out the women's welfare schemes implemented by his government one by one. The excited activists chanted "Modi's guarantee".

The Prime Minister launched the BJP's Lok Sabha election campaign with a Mahila Sangam organized at Thekkinkadu Maidan. With Suresh Gopi also participating in the roadshow along with the Prime Minister, it became the candidate announcement in Thrissur. Apart from Suresh Gopi, only BJP state president K Surendran and Mahila Morcha state president Niveditha Subramanian took part in the roadshow with Modi.

Enumerating the women-friendly projects implemented since 2014 when the Modi government first came to power, the Prime Minister repeated in Malayalam that it was Modi's guarantee. Thousands of women too chanted 'Modi's guarantee.'

The Prime Minister said that the energy imparted by AV Kuttimaluvamma, Akkamma Cherian and Rosamma Punnoos to the freedom struggle was not small and that Karthyaniamma and Bhagirathiamma showed that age was no barrier to education. He also heaped praises on national award-winning singer Nanchiyamma, PT Usha and Anju Bobby George.

BJP is hoping that the presence of actress Shobhana, PT Usha MP, singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi, cricketer Minnumani, industrialist Beena Kannan, social worker Uma Preman, Maryakutty who gained attention through the pension issue, etc. at the programme will increase the acceptance of the party in the general public of Kerala.
