THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Yet another shocking incident unfolded at Varkala on Wednesday as a woman jumped off from the Papanasam helipad in a purported suicide attempt. Amrita (28), a native of Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, tried to commit suicide at 1:45 pm on Wednesday. She was on a visit to the tourist spot with her friends.
It is reported that while eating ice cream, the young woman suddenly got angry and jumped down from the height. The young woman jumped from the side of the tourism police aid post near the helipad. The 28-year-old slipped into a depth of 30 feet and suffered serious injuries. After the incident, locals, lifeguards and tourism police took the woman to Varkala Taluk Hospital.
The doctors discerned that the young woman suffered deep head injuries while her two hands were confirmed as broken. Minding the immediate need for better medical attention, Amritha was shifted to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
The reason for the suicide attempt is still unclear but the police took into custody three male friends who accompanied the woman to Varkala. According to officials, all were under the influence of alcohol. An investigation has started.
