NEW DELHI: Nationalist Congress Party MLA (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Jitendra Awhad said Lord Ram was not a vegetarian. He said that Lord Ram was a non-vegetarian and could not live in the forest by eating only vegetarian food.

'Lord Ram belongs to us, Bahujans. He used to hunt and eat animals. Lord Ram was never a vegetarian but a non-vegetarian. How can a person who has lived in the forest for fourteen years be a non-vegetarian?' said Jitendra Awhad.

मैं अरुण यादव महाराष्ट्र सरकार से इस रामद्रोही JITENDRA AWHAD को तुरंत गिरफ्तार करने की मांग कर रहा हूं।

BJP leader Ram Kadam has sent a letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde requesting that January 22, the day of grand consecration of new Ram Temple in Ayodhya, be declared as Dry Day and Veg Day. Meanwhile, Jitendra Awhad mentioned that Lord Ram is a non-vegetarian.

Jitendra Awhad has come forward with an explanation after the remark became controversial. 'Why the controversy over what Bhagavan ate? Lord Ram was a Kshatriya and they eat non-veg. I stand by what I said. 80% of India's population are non-vegetarians and they are also devotees of Lord Ram,’ he clarified.
