KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has rejected the plea of a 12-year-old girl who sought permission to perform an abortion. The court denied the permission because the fetus reached the age of 34 weeks. The court did not grant permission as an abortion at this stage can adversely affect the girl's health. The said girl became pregnant after a sexual relationship with her brother. As per reports, the girl went to court seeking permission for abortion on December 22.
The child's parents argued that giving birth at this age would affect the child psychologically and physically. But the court suggested that the birth of the child should take place through natural delivery or cesarean under the supervision of medical experts. The court also said that the girl can seek treatment from the nearest government medical college till delivery.
After the full growth of the fetus in the 36th week, the medical experts under the guidance of the medical superintendent will decide the mode of delivery for the child. The court also assured that the full safety of the child will be ensured after delivery and stated that the living conditions of the child with the parents will be monitored until delivery.
