IDUKKI: Police have arrested the youth who sexually assaulted the 12-year-old daughter of a migrant worker in Munnar. The arrested person has been identified as Jharkhand native Selal. It was the employees of the Bodimettu Excise checkpost who apprehended the accused and handed him over to the police.

The accused was caught days after the incident took place. The police had issued a lookout notice to nab Selal. The staff at the checkpost identified the accused from this notice. Selal will be produced in court today. According to the police, Selal had been absconding with his wife after sexually assaulting the girl. The lookout notice contained the picture and information of his wife. However, it is not clear whether she has been arrested.

The 12-year-old girl from Chittivara Estate in Munnar was subjected to sexual assault when nobody else was there at home. The accused sexually assaulted her after taking her to a nearby secluded place. After the incident, Selal fled from the spot. The relatives came to know about the sexual assault after the girl experienced severe physical pain. Following this, the family lodged a complaint with the police.

The police issued a lookout notice for the accused as they were not able to find him despite searching for him. He has been booked under various sections of the POCSO Act.
