THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An investigation has been announced against Kannur Town SI on the complaint filed by M Vijin MLA regarding Kannur Civil Station march. The decision was based on the conclusion that the SI was at fault in the incident. An officer of the rank of DySP will investigate the complaint. Police sources say that action will be taken against SI only after investigation. State police chief Sheikh Darvesh Sahib sought a report from the Kannur city police commissioner on the incident.
In Kannur, the town police registered a case against M Vijin MLA in the incident of marching towards the civil station premises. A case was filed against the officials for unlawful assembly.
The Congress criticized the CPM as trying to take the law their way. The CPM claims that there is no need for a case against the MLA and that the fault lies with the police.
The stance of the town SI to file a case against those who trespassed on the premises of the collectorate sparked controversies. The protesters claim that the police were not there to stop the nurses who came to the demonstration, so the police were at fault. M Vijin MLA questioned why a case is being registered. But the police officer asked the name of the MLA to file a case, as per the instructions of the SI, and the problem became more serious.
Later, the town police registered a case for trespassing into the civil station and unlawful assembly. But the name of the MLA who inaugurated the march was not included in the FIR. The accused are around 100 people who are known to be KGNA office bearers.
The MLA had filed a complaint with the city police commissioner.
