IDUKKI: In a disturbing incident, the father of the Vandiperiyar rape victim was stabbed on Saturday. The incident happened on Saturday morning near Vandiperiyar town. The father and grandfather of the six-year-old rape victim were standing in the town when suddenly, a relative of court acquitted Arjun came to the place. It was Arjun’s father’s brother who reached the spot and had an altercation with the victim's family.
The altercation soon faded down and the two sides left the spot. However, after some time, Arjun’s relative came back to the spot and stabbed the victim’s father in his leg. He was rushed to Vandiperiyar Government Hospital and is undergoing treatment. According to reports, the injuries are being treated and if found serious, he will be soon shifted to Kottayam Medical Hospital.
Arjun’s father’s brother, who is accused of the crime had a shop in Vandiperiyar town. For many days, this shop was shut down for unknown reasons. And today morning, the shop was opened again which irked the victim's relatives. An altercation took place in front of this shop which finally paved the way for the stabbing incident.
The police are currently taking statements from the victim’s father at the hospital. Arjun who was earlier accused in the case was acquitted by the court after police submitted a shallow chargesheet omitting Arjun from major charges. Just three days back, the victim's kin visited CM Pinarayi Vijayan and pleaded for help and expressed their concern over the case.
