PEERUMEDU: The police said the aim of Palraj, accused in the attack against the victim’s father in Vandiperiyar, was murder. The FIR stated that the accused deliberately created a provocation. The police have registered a case under charges including attempt to murder. The accused is in the Vandiperiyar police station. He will be produced in the court this afternoon after further investigation.
The paternal uncle of Arjun, acquitted by the court in the case of sexually abusing and killing a six-year-old girl, stabbed the victim’s father and grandfather yesterday morning. Palraj (46), uncle of Arjun has been arrested.
The victim's father and grandfather were on their way to attend a funeral function. At this time Palraj made obscene gestures to them. The two questioned it and this led to a verbal argument. It created a commotion and Palraj stabbed them with a knife which he kept in his hand. Palraj stabbed the victim’s father on his thighs. He also sustained injuries on his chest and shoulder. Her grandfather too sustained injuries. The two were first admitted to primary health center in Vandiperiyar and later to Peerumedu taluk hospital. The child's father was shifted to Kottayam Medical College for further tests. The accused who escaped after the attack was caught by the Peerumedu police and handed over to the Vandiperiyar police.
Arjun's family had approached the high court and obtained police protection, showing that there was a possibility of an attack on them. The girl's family and relatives did not allow Arjun to reach his own house After this, Arjun lived with Palraj. After the acquittal of Arjun, there were heated arguments on both sides.
The parents of the six-year-old girl had gone to Thiruvananthapuram to meet the chief minister and had conveyed their complaints regarding the case. After the Congress, CPI and BJP leaders led by Dean Kuriakos MP came forward demanding protection for the victim's family, the police provided protection to them.
