MUMBAI: Naresh Goyal, founder of Jet Airways, said that he had lost all hope in life. Goyal told the court that it is better to die than to live in this present condition. Naresh Goyal, who is in jail in a loan fraud case, became emotional while hearing his bail plea in the court the other day.
He explained his present situation in front of judge M G Desphande with folded hands. Naresh Goyal also requested the court that his wife is bedridden and their only daughter also is unwell.
'My health condition is bad. The condition of my wife who is in the advanced stage of cancer is also very bad. The prison officials have limitations in helping him. My knees are swollen and painful and is unable to fold my legs. He has severe pain while urinating. Sometimes blood is passed through urine. There is no use in referring him to J J Hospital.
Travelling with other inmates as per the convenience of prison staff and escort party from Arthur Road jail to the hospital is very troublesome, hectic and tedious which he cannot bear and sustain. There is a long queue of patients and cannot see the doctor in time. All these are affecting my health badly. Goyal told the court that it is better to die in jail than sending him to J J Hospital.'
Naresh Goyal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on September 1 in 2023 in a 538 crore loan fraud case related to Canara Bank. He is presently lodged in Arthur Road Jail and has applied for bail. Meantime, Desphande stated in the court documents that he clearly inquired about Naresh Goyal's problems and his whole body was shaking when he spoke. The judge stated that Goyal has been informed that he will be provided with all kinds of treatment both mentally and physically. The court has asked Naresh Goyal's lawyers to take necessary steps in health-related matters.
