NEW DELHI: While Governor CV Anandabose and the Mamata government are in a bitter fight over the law and order situation in West Bengal, the shooting death of a Trinamool Congress leader has made the scene more chaotic. Satyan Chowdhury, general secretary of the party's Murshidabad unit, was killed in Bharatpur yesterday afternoon. Three assailants on two bikes opened fire at him at point blank range. The police have intensified their search for the accused.

The governor has ordered the immediate arrest of Trinamool leader Shahjahan Sheikh in connection with the attack on three ED personnel in North 24 Parganas district on Friday. He also demanded an inquiry into his terror links. The clash with the government escalated when the governor alleged that the law and order situation in Bengal had broken down. Meanwhile, the ED has issued a lookout notice for Shahjahan Sheikh, who is absconding.

The ED officials were attacked when they came to raid the house of Shahjahan Sheikh in the case of corruption in the distribution of rations during the COVID period. Police registered three cases in the incident. Two against the assailants and one against the ED officials. The charges of insulting women and trespassing were charged against the officers.

Meanwhile, the audio clip of absconding Shahjahan Sheikh has surfaced on social media. Sheikh is calling on the ranks not to be afraid. "Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee should be trusted. Has not encouraged violence. I am ready to die if I am convinced that I have done something wrong," the audio said.
