KOCHI: High Court today reviews actor and former MP Suresh Gopi's plea for anticipatory bail following allegations of insulting a journalist. He sought relief after the FIR was amended with severe sections post-interrogation. The government's stance on the petition is expected to be revealed today.

The plea asserts political rivalry due to Suresh Gopi leading a rally against the government on the Karuvannur case as the cause behind the case. It contends that the journalist obstructed his path after an event and he merely pushed her aside. The police have filed a charge sheet in the case.

A case was filed by Kozhikode Nadakkavu Police based on a complaint by a media worker alleging inappropriate touching by Suresh Gopi under section 35A. Despite being released after questioning, non-bailable charges were pressed against him. The complainant provided a confidential statement to the Chief Judicial Magistrate of Thamarassery.

During his interrogation last month at Nadakkavu station, numerous BJP supporters gathered with Suresh Gopi arriving on foot. Activists displayed posters and chanted slogans in his favour. Three lawyers appeared at the station to represent Suresh Gopi. BJP state president K Surendran, Shobha Surendran, MT Ramesh and PK Krishnadas were also present.
