PATHANAMTHITTA: Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil was arrested Tuesday early morning. The Thiruvananthapuram Cantonment Police surrounded his house and then arrested him from his house in Pathanamthitta. The arrest was in connection with the Youth Congress’ Secretariat March.
The case is that he staged protests without the permission of the police and destroyed public property. In addition to the sections of the Indian Penal Code like group violence, destruction of public property, obstruction of duty and assaulting officers, the case included charges in the Police Act.
The Youth Congress staged Secretariat march against the police and CPM for physically facing the protests against the Nava Kerala Sadas. This resulted in a clash. In the case registered following this, opposition leader V D Satheesan is the first accused. MLAs Shafi Parampil and M Vincent are the second and third accused and Rahul the fourth accused.
The Youth Congress activists have come forward protesting the arrest of Rahul.
