KOCHI: Kochi Metro Rail Limited said that the Kochi Metro model is suitable for Thiruvananthapuram as well.

Considering the study report that up to 19,747 passengers will travel through the project area by 2051, KMRL CMD Loknath Behra said that the light metro is not suitable. The plan outline will be handed over to the government this month. The final decision will be taken by the government.

DPR for the light metro project in Thiruvananthapuram was submitted in 2018. After that, there was a proposal to revise the DPR based on the development in the city. The study conducted by KMRL late last year found that a complete metro would be ideal. Matters like revising the alignment of the metro track and land acquisition will be decided in consultation with the Delhi Metro Rail (DMRC) and the National Highway Authority (NHA).

A comprehensive mobility plan for Kozhikode Metro has also been completed. Behra said that a meeting of the concerned parties will be held soon.
