KOCHI: The government assured the High Court of its readiness to appoint a special prosecutor for the Dr Vandana Das murder case. It stated that, at this stage, a CBI investigation is not required. The Additional Director General of Prosecution invited suggestions from Vandana's parents for the prosecutor.

The bench headed by Justice Sophie Thomas will delve into the details of the petition on the 18th. The trial at the Kollam Sessions Court remains stayed until then.

KG Mohandas, Dr Vandana's father appealed for a CBI investigation alleging police mishandling of the case. The prosecution countered, arguing against transferring the accused to the CBI citing eyewitnesses including police officers. They highlighted the filed charge sheet and suggested any flaws in the police investigation could be examined.

The defendant, G Sandeep became a party in the petition. He stabbed Dr Vandana Das on May 10 while undergoing examination at Kottarakkara Taluk Hospital under police custody.
