LUCKNOW: Five children who were sleeping in the room died of suffocation. The tragedy happened at a house in Amroha of Uttar Pradesh. Reports said all dead are members of a family. Two in critical condition have been shifted to the hospital. Of the five dead, three children are of Raheezuddin and two of his relative. Raheezuddin's wife and sister are in critical condition.
The tragedy was caused by inhaling smoke from a coal stove that was burning inside a closed room. Low oxygen in the room also added to the disaster. The neighbours got suspicious when seven people went to sleep on Monday night and the door was not opened till Tuesday evening. They later forcefully entered the house after breaking the door. Even though they were taken to the hospital, all five had died by then. Further investigation into the incident has been initiated.
Using fireplaces inside a closed room, etc., can lead to disaster. The door and window are closed to prevent more fresh air from entering the room. Along with this, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, etc., which are harmful to health, will also be produced by burning the stove. Prolonged inhalation and lack of fresh air can cause death.
