THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that there is a chance of rain with thunder and lightning at isolated places in Kerala today. A cyclonic circulation exists in the eastern Indian Ocean near the equator. Another cyclonic circulation is located over the Southeast Arabian Sea and the Middle East Arabian Sea. Due to its influence, moderate/intermediate rain is likely over Kerala for the next two days.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has informed that there is a possibility of 1.0 to 1.5 meter high waves and storm surge along the Kerala coast till 11.30 pm tonight. Strong winds and bad weather conditions are likely today and tomorrow along the south Kerala coast and Lakshadweep coast with a speed of 40 to 45 kmph and on some occasions up to 55 kmph.
The IMD has informed that fishing should not be done on the coasts of Kerala and Lakshadweep but there is no restriction on fishing on the coast of Karnataka. As the rough seas are likely to intensify, the public is advised to stay away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. The IMD also warned that trips to the beach and recreational activities in the sea should be completely avoided.
