KOCHI: The NIA has started to quickly complete the identification parade of Savad, the prime accused arrested in the Professor TJ Joseph hand chopping case. The NIA team will soon file an application in the magistrate court for this.
The objective of the investigation team is to complete the identification parade and take Savad into custody quickly.
Savad is in remand till January 24. He is currently lodged in Ernakulam Sub Jail. A detailed forensic examination will be conducted on the two mobile phones seized from the accused. The NIA remand report stated that the conspiracy behind the case should be brought out by interrogating Savad and that he spent 13 years in hiding with the help of Popular Front of India leaders.
Savad was arrested from a rented house in Mattannur's Beram following a tip-off. The NIA team surrounded the house and arrested him around 3 am yesterday. He lived alternately in Kannur and Kasaragod for 13 years. He got married in Kasaragod while he was in hiding. His father-in-law is an SDPI worker in Kasaragod. He came to Beram a year and a half ago and lived with his wife and two children. He used to go for carpentry works. The NIA took over the case in March 2011.
