KANNUR: LDF convener EP Jayarajan responded to the speech by renowned writer MT Vasudevan Nair in Kozhikode where Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan was present. Jayarajan stated that MT's speech was misinterpreted attributing it to anti-left elements. He clarified that when he heard the speech, he sensed MT's criticism was directed towards the central government.
Jayarajan emphasized that the political situation in Soviet Russia had been previously discussed within the party and wasn't relevant to Kerala. He asserted that MT's speech reflected sorrow for the current state of the country. He highlighted his own reverence for Pinarayi comparing it to the veneration of icons like Ayyankali, Sreenarayana Guru, Mannath Padmanabhan and AKG.
MT's criticism took place at a literature festival organized by DC Books at Kozhikode beach. MT expressed that the theory of power as an avenue for public service had been discarded long ago stating that political activity had become a recognized path to attain power. The criticism occurred in the presence of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Political activity is a recognized means of attaining power. Anywhere, power can mean dominance or sovereignty. There may be people who have reached the complacency that the goal was achieved when the first communist government came to power. EMS is a great leader because he believed that the opportunity of power is only the beginning of the great movement to make the masses who led the marches, stormed the fields and filled the ballot boxes into a responsible society. EMS has always tried to change the old concept of few to lead and many to be led. That is why he was not seen in any of the leadership pujas. A large crowd who participated in the Russian revolution. This crowd can be easily angered, made fans. Freedom is not the generosity of rulers. There is no legend here who is in the habit of admitting when he is wrong. EMS was concerned about Kerala' - said MT.
Minister Mohammad Riyaz, writer Sachithanandan, dancer Mallika Sarabhai, and others were present on the stage during MT's keynote speech. Following the speech, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan left the stage.
