India achieved a significant milestone as Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Atal Setu sea bridge, connecting Thane Strait and Navi Mumbai. This remarkable structure, the longest sea bridge in the country spans 22 km with 16.5 km over the sea.
Atal Setu cuts travel time between Thane and Navi Mumbai from two hours to just twenty minutes, offering a quick and efficient commute for the people of Mumbai. The six-lane road, built on pillars in the sea is designed as an expressway allowing smooth and fast transportation. However, two-wheelers and tractor-trailers are not permitted.
With modern amenities in place, including CCTV surveillance every 300 meters, security measures, and a toll rate of Rs 350 for one direction and Rs 375 for both, Atal Setu ensures a comfortable journey. The toll charges are seen as reasonable compared to the hours spent in city traffic and fuel consumption.
This engineering marvel was completed in six years, a commendable feat considering the challenges of constructing a road over the sea. The project's success is credited to the expertise and dedication of our engineers, technicians and skilled workers.
The Atal Setu sea bridge is part of India's ongoing infrastructure development, reflecting the country's unprecedented growth in the transport sector over the past decade. The construction of new roads and tunnels, even in remote areas and record-breaking national highway construction showcase the nation's commitment to progress.
