THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/KOZHIKODE: Leaders have come out supporting, opposing and weaponizing MT Vasudevan Nair's speech at the inaugural function of the Kerala Literature Festival.
The CPM Secretariat decided to discuss the remark in a serious manner and also banned the public response of the leaders regarding the same.
The discussion will take place following the contemporary communist devaluation by MT citing the former Chief Minister and all-time senior leader EMS. CPM State Secretary MV Govindan shared in the meeting that the criticism will be looked into seriously. The state secretary also expressed the opinion that Left Front convener EP Jayarajan's justification was unnecessary.
At the same time, the party's stand is that although MT's remark was discussed, it is enough to see it only as a criticism of a writer. CPM points out that this is only an article written years ago commemorating EMS and that the article is part of two books.
"My request is that MT's sharp words on the CM should not fall on deaf ears," the opposition leader said on the stage of the literature festival and added that what he said is the writing of time and the things that time demands.
Assembly Speaker AN Shamseer said on the same platform that he did not feel that MT's criticism was against the Chief Minister. Shamseer opined that MT should not be dragged into this and he himself should say what he meant.
Finance Minister KN Balagopal responded in Thiruvananthapuram that all those who know Malayalam will understand that he did not mean to say about Kerala, but spoke about the tendency of excessive power and lack of democracy in many parts of the world. MT said that he and his speech are not responsible for interpretations. Minister MB Rajesh said that he has been told.

A 2003 essay entitled ' Charithraparamaya oravashyam (A Historical Necessity)' was presented by MT as a speech the other day. The article originally appeared in the book Snehadarangalode, Haritam Books. It is also featured in MT's book 'Selected Articles' published by Current Books. Only some of the words spoken at the beginning and end of the speech have been added.
