ATTINGAL: An Attingal native came with a complaint about being conned through the OLX app. Sathish, a resident of Attingal, fell prey form the fraud and lost money when he saw a sale offer for a phone on the OLX app. On 9th January, Sathish contacted Ernakulam Kakkanad native Iffin by phone and expressed his interest in buying the phone.

The Ernakulam native informed Sathish that he needed money on an urgent basis and said he would courier the phone at the earliest. Video of the phone being packed and various photos of the phone were also sent to Sathish to nurture trust. To show proof that the phone was booked and sent to the Kakkanad branch of Professional Courier, Receipt number 5248 49073 was also sent via WhatsApp.

Phone number 9037719976 was provided to pay money through Google Pay. Sathish got to know about the fraud when he contacted the courier office in Attingal the next day. It revealed that this receipt was from Haryana and said that Kakkanad had no such courier office. Sathish tried contacting the seller but no calls were entertained. Later it was learned that all documents and WhatsApp messages were cleared by the seller. A case has been registered with the police.
