WELLINGTON: Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her long-term partner Clarke Gayford got married on Saturday. The wedding took place in a simple ceremony held at Craggy Range Winery in Hawke's Bay, North Island, north of Wellington.
43-year-old Jacinda and 47-year-old Gayford got engaged in 2019. The two were meant to be married in 2022. However, the ceremony was cancelled in the wake of increasing Covid cases in the country. Gayford is a television presenter. In 2018, Jacinda gave birth to her daughter Neve Te Aroha.
After Benazir Bhutto of Pakistan, Jacinda is the only elected head of government to give birth while in office. Jacinda, who became the Prime Minister of New Zealand in 2017, resigned from the post of Prime Minister and the leadership of the Labour Party in January last year. She had said that she wanted to leave politics and spend time with her family.
