NEW DELHI: Four members of a family died after inhaling toxic fumes from burning coal for heating. The incident took place in Alipur, New Delhi. The members of the family were sleeping after burning coal inside the house due to extreme cold. Rakesh (40), his wife Lalitha (38) and their children Piyush (8) and Sunny (7) died in the incident. The bodies of all four were found in the same room. The house was locked from inside. A forensic team reached the spot and conducted an investigation.

In the national capital, the transport systems were also disrupted due to extreme cold. Several flights were also delayed. Seven flights scheduled to reach New Delhi were diverted to Jaipur and one flight to Mumbai. 22 trains of Northern Railway were running late.

The special IndiGo flight carrying Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and other leaders who were leaving to inaugurate the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra was delayed due to heavy fog. The flight was operated from New Delhi to Imphal in Manipur. The Meteorological Center has issued a red alert in New Delhi as the winter continues to be extremely severe. Aya Nagar recorded a temperature of three degrees Celsius last morning. A red alert has also been declared in the National Capital Region.
