Suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma on Sunday participated in the Jan Jagran Yatra program in Delhi ahead of the consecration ceremony of Ram temple scheduled for January 19th. This is the first time Nupur is appearing before the public after the May 2022 incident which more or less changed her life.

Nupur on Sunday was seen adorning a red tilak, strolling past the road amidst big chants of ‘Jai Sree Ram’. She is currently being provided with special protection by the government. Nupur’s return after a two-year hiatus will surely boost the spirits of BJP cadres in Delhi as she has risen to popularity over the May 2022 incident.

On a Television discussion back in May 2022, Nupur while answering Taslim Ahmed Rehmani quoted the hadiths of Islam, which was later distorted by certain online handles who shrewdly edited the video to picture like Nupur demeaning prophet Mohammed. Massive protests rocked the nation after the debate while one innocent tailor in Jaipur was beheaded in a gruesome manner by extremists for supporting Nupur on Facebook. Another man was also killed in Madhya Pradesh for liking Nupur's video on social media. Nupur, an adroit speaker and BJP prodigy in Delhi was shockingly shunned by her own party after foreign countries like Qatar expressed displeasure to India over the incident.

Death threats started reaching her and the leader had to go into oblivion since then. She was not seen in any of the debates or programs since 2022 and was restricted to an unknown residence. BJP suspended her from the party for the comments made by her on the television debate.

Coming to 2024, party members and netizens are celebrating Nupur’s return to active politics while many analysts guess this as BJP’s latest move to place Nupur as the future Delhi CM candidate to topple the incumbent Kejriwal government. Nupur’s popularity has gone over the roof since the May 2022 incident and her young age and adroitness will help BJP put up a great fight against AAP in Delhi.
