THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In the realm of entrepreneurship, a notable 18% surge in women-led startups has been witnessed nationwide over the past five years, as per the latest Women in Startup Ecosystem (WISE) report. The figures reveal a remarkable rise from 600 startups in 2017 to a staggering 14,400 in 2023.

States like Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra have taken the lead witnessing a significant boost in women-driven enterprises. Kerala has seen a commendable increase from 175 to over 350 startups in 2022. Notably, funding for these enterprises has shown a commendable 20% uptick.

Two prominent trends have surfaced in this entrepreneurial wave: the emergence of cloud kitchens, selling home-cooked food and a notable movement in AI ventures led by women. In the previous financial year, Kerala Startup Mission provided substantial support with an infusion of 1.73 crore rupees.

The report also underscores the rise in the number of female employees in startups helmed by women. Incubation facilities are proliferating in educational institutions, further fostering the startup culture.

Specifically in Kerala, out of 5,000 startups registered under Startup Mission, 350 are women-led.
