ALAPPUZHA: Clashes in Alappuzha Youth Congress march to protest the arrest of state president Rahul Mamkootathil. The police lathi-charged the activists. District President AP Praveen was rounded up and beaten by the police. Women workers were also injured. Women activists complain that male policemen hit them on the head with lathis.

The Collectorate march by the Youth Congress resulted in a clash. The activists then blocked the road. The women activists said that they will strongly protest against the beating of the activists who were peacefully protesting.

The conflict started when the activists did not disperse despite the police firing water cannons twice. There was a lathi charge when the activists pushed aside the barricades and rushed towards the police under the leadership of the district president. AP Praveen suffered serious head injuries in the police beating. It is reported that many policemen were also injured in the stone pelting by Youth Congress workers. As the conflict intensified, senior leaders reached and removed the Youth Congress workers from the place.
