CHENNAI: A mother and son were drowned to death in a well in Tamil Nadu's Chengalpattu on Monday. Vimala Rani (35) and her son Praveen (15), both natives of Chengalpattu, Koovathur are the deceased. While Vimala was washing clothes, Praveen slipped and fell into the well. Seeing the horrific incident right in front of her eyes, Vimala without any second thought threw her saree into the well to save her son.

Both the mother-son duo came to the well area to do laundry. The relatives were alerted as both of them did not return even after the normal time. A search was conducted and the bodies were later found from the well. As per locals in the area, they saw Praveen sitting next to the well while Vimala was washing clothes. Later, they saw just a saree clinging out of the well which raised suspicion.

It is suspected that Vimala might have slipped into the well while she helped her son using her saree. The fire force and police worked to get the dead bodies out of the well. After the postmortem, the body will be handed over to the family. The police have started an investigation into the incident.
