THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The world's first and largest renewable energy project where sunlight and sandstorms in the desert will be simultaneously converted into electricity will come up in India. The project will come up in the Khavda desert in the Kutch district of Gujarat, adjacent to the Rajasthan desert. It will also have the distinction of being the world's largest green energy system.
On completion of the project, 33000 MW of electricity will be produced each day. The construction, which started in 2022, is in progress. Five crore tonnes of carbon emissions can be eliminated through the project.
The Khavda energy park is owned by the Adani Group. Although the solar project will be completed by 2025, the wind farm will be commissioned in phases. As many as 400 fans are being manufactured in Adani's factory in a year. It will take six years to build sufficient fans. A 79-meter-long and 24-tonne windmill will produce 5.2 MW of electricity.
Project park will be as large as Singapore
1. The total area of the park is 726 square kilometers. This is equal to the size of the city of Singapore. Adani is investing two lakh crores in five years.
2. On completion of the project, 33000 MW of electricity will be produced each day. This is sufficient to meet the needs of two crore households per day. 20000 MW from solar and 13000 MW from wind. Daily consumption in Kerala is only 4500 MW.
