ALAPPUZHA: Minister K Radhakrishnan kept his word as he decided to write off the self-employment loan of Omana, the wife of KG Prasad, a farmer who committed suicide in Thakazhi. The title deed of Prasad’s house was handed over to Omana by Arun Prabhakar, the new district manager of Scheduled Caste Corporation.

Based on the news published in Kerala Kaumudi about the seizure of Prasad's house, the minister had assured that the loan would be written off. Arun Prabhakar and his team reached Prasad's house in Thakazhi Kunnumma at 3 pm on Monday to hand over the title deed of the house.

Meanwhile, Scheduled Caste Corporation district manager Bose, who sent the forfeiture notice to Prasad's family, has been transferred from Alappuzha to Kilimanoor. Following the Kerala Kaumudi report, the minister said he would ask for an explanation from officials. However, the Scheduled Caste Welfare Corporation said the transfer was normal and had nothing to do with the Thakazhi issue.

The loan taken by Omana in 2022 from Scheduled Castes Development Corporation has been outstanding since last February. The corporation sent a notice stating that if the dues of Rs 17,600 are not paid, the house and five cents of the property will be confiscated.

When this news was published in Kerala Kaumudi, the minister intervened and froze the seizure. Actor and BJP leader Suresh Gopi also took over the debts of Prasad's family and Rs 3.70 lakh was handed over to the family. Later, the loan was written off as per the minister's instructions.
