THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A three-day CPM Central Committee meeting for initial discussions to face the Lok Sabha elections will be held from January 28 at the EMS Academy in Vilappilsala, Thiruvananthapuram. Before this, the Politburo will also meet in Thiruvananthapuram to discuss strategies, including in matters such as candidate selection. The election is likely to be announced by the end of February.

The political significance of the party's central leadership meeting in the capital of Kerala after a long hiatus is very high. The party is giving more importance to Kerala, the only state ruled by a CPM-controlled government. At present, the CPM has only three members in the Lok Sabha. There is only one member from Kerala (AM Arif from Alappuzha). The other two seats are from Tamil Nadu through the DMK alliance. CPI has only two members from Tamil Nadu. In Tamil Nadu, like in 2019, the DMK is likely to give two seats each to CPM and CPI in the coming elections. In the current political climate, both parties are very confident of winning these seats. However, the party's chances of winning in Bengal and Tripura are very small.

The massive demonstration organised by the DYFI a few days ago in Bengal has breathed new life into the CPM. Election violence and booth capture by the ruling Trinamool Congress are obstacles in converting this popular advance into votes. Left parties are also weak at the organizational level. In this situation, the party's aim is to get the maximum number of seats from Kerala.

Will assess chances of success
1. The leadership meetings will assess the political situation and the chances of success in states like Bengal, Tripura, and Tamil Nadu.
2. Will review electoral cooperation with the 'INDIA' front and the possibility of seat sharing with Congress in states other than Kerala, especially in Bengal and Tripura
