Every journey is an experience that introduces us to new lifestyles, foibles and among all, the chance to meet new people. If such journeys are taken by politicians in India, the result will be inspiring. A more lucid understanding of people's trouble and the current state of development can be acquired on first-hand account.
Rahul Gandhi is a scion of the Nehru family and is not any leader who rose from the bottom to the upper echelons of power. So it is appreciable that such a leader is ready to engage in such laborious travel across the nation to get clear information regarding the concerns of people in the country.
Rahul's second Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra has started in Manipur's Thoubal district. The first Bharat Jodo Yatra started from Kanyakumari on 7th September 2022 and ended in Srinagar on 30th January 2023. During the initial phase, Rahul covered more than 3,000 kilometres on foot through 12 states and two Union Territories. In the assembly elections held after this journey, the Congress won Karnataka and Telangana in South India but suffered a heavy setback in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
The Bharat Nyaya Yatra this time will pass through states that are ruled by the BJP. After covering 6713 km, the journey will end in Mumbai at the end of March. Congress said the Yatra had nothing to do with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections while Rahul Gandhi said his mission was just to spread love to people. However, it is very palpable that the congress is conducting the event as a prelude to their campaign for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
On the other hand, the BJP is eclipsing the media coverage of the Bharat Nyaya Yatra with the highly pompous Ram Mandir consecration ceremony. Despite not making any official announcement, the BJP has tacitly approved PM Modi to be the prime ministerial candidate for the third time. In contrast, Congress and other parties on the opposition front are reluctant to name Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate.
Nyay Yatra alone won’t be sufficient for Rahul Gandhi to spread dominance in the opposition bloc as a roster of other leaders are salivating for the PM seat and will put the congress leadership in a fix in the coming days. Rahul Gandhi wants people to know the divisive politics and the perils of hatred spread by PM Modi’s BJP across the country. However, how the congress leader will fare in convincing people remains a mystery and the recent Hindi heartland defeat also adds to the pressure on the congress party.
The result of the Lok Sabha election is going to come as a testimony of how much the people have accepted the promises and hopes given by Rahul Gandhi to the people. The success or failure of Rahul Gandhi depends on how well he manages to appeal to lakhs of people. In whatever circumstance, the plan to move ahead with another Bharat Yatra will boost the spirit of the opposition camp nevertheless.
