THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Renowned singer KS Chithra faces cyber attacks following her statement on the Ayodhya shrine. In a video message, she urged people to chant Rama's name during idol worship and light lamps at home in the evening. Social media including leftist profiles criticized Chithra for this.
Some people from the music industry also took to social media to criticize Chithra while singer G Venugopal supported her. The controversy intensified when a prominent online media reported singer Sooraj Santhosh's views on social media leading to a flood of political and communal comments on Chithra's official page.
G. Venugopal expressed his sadness over the cyber attack emphasizing Chithra's 44-year dedication to singing and her focus on music, devotion, love and empathy. He urged forgiveness for any difference of opinion with Chithra's statement.
Union Minister V. Muralidharan criticized the cyber attacks, linking them to the Sabarimala ritual violation participants. Minister of Culture Saji Cherian noted that Chithra's words shouldn't be controversial, given the Supreme Court's permission to build the Ram temple.
Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan defended freedom of opinion, condemning the cyber attack as fascism. Khushbu, Member of the National Commission for Women, labelled the cyber attack against Chithra as shameful citing extreme intolerance in areas ruled by Congress and Communists.
