KANNUR: A special team has been formed to nab TC Harshad, the accused in a drug case, who escaped from Kannur Central Jail. The investigation team was formed under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner TK Ratnakumar and Town Police Inspector PA Binu Mohan as per the instructions of City Police Commissioner Ajith Kumar.
The investigation team has reached Bengaluru in search of the accused. Drug cartels in the area are being watched in particular. The police are monitoring the bases of Harshad's gang. The police had questioned Harshad's relatives and friends in Kerala.
TC Harshad (34), who was serving a 10-year sentence, tricked the police and hopped on the bike with a man who was waiting near the gate. Harshad's prison sentence started on September 9.
The incident happened last Sunday at 6:45 am. Harshad, who was doing work related to the welfare office of the jail, had reached the gate to collect the newspaper as usual. The newspaper was kept on the outside step. After getting down to collect it, he escaped with the man who was waiting on his bike. By the time the authorities started searching, half an hour had passed.
When the CCTV footage was checked, it became clear that he had gone towards Kannur town. The vehicles on the national highway, railway station and bus stands were searched but he could not be found.
