THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Youth Congress state president Rahul Mamkootathil has been released from jail after being granted bail in cases related to the clashes at the Secretariat and DGP office marches. Rahul was released from Poojappura District Jail at nine o'clock tonight after completing the procedures after receiving the court order. Led by Youth Congress National President BV Srinivas, hundreds of activists gave him a rousing welcome with slogans.

Bail in both cases is subject to conditions. He was released after eight days in jail. The police had reached the jail and arrested Rahul on two other cases related to the Secretariat March in December, but the court granted bail in them on Tuesday. Bail was granted by District Principal Sessions Judge PV Balakrishnan in the case registered by the Cantonment police in connection with the Secretariat March and Chief Judicial Magistrate Shibu Daniel in the case registered by the museum police in connection with the violence during the DGP office march.

Rahul was arrested from his house in Pathanamthitta on 9th morning. Defence lawyer Mridul John Mathew argued in the court that the imposition of non-bailable clauses after issuing a notice for questioning in the case of bailable offences was part of a political conspiracy. The lower court did not properly consider Rahul's medical certificate saying that he had neurological disorders. Rahul was remanded based on the government doctor's prescription that there was no injury or bruise on his body.
