THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF may not participate in the agitation that will be organized by the LDF in Delhi on February 8 against the Centre's neglect towards Kerala. Although Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had called a meeting and sought the cooperation of the opposition, the general feeling within the UDF is that the opposition should not participate in the agitation.
Opposition Leader VD Satheesan and PK Kunhalikutty, who attended the meeting, had said that they would announce the decision after consultation with the Congress and the Front. A final decision will be made after discussing it with constituent parties in the UDF. The UDF has objections towards the central government's approach towards the state. However, it believes that the economic crisis in Kerala is not entirely because of the central approach.
The UDF leaders are of the opinion that the state government should reduce its expenditure, strengthen the tax collection and end the lavishness. The opposition had also demanded the government to issue a white paper on the financial crisis. It disagrees with the strike moves of the government and the LDF which did not comply with this. The UDF has also realized the political strategy of the LDF in organizing an agitation against the Centre just before the Lok Sabha elections.
