THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An employee of the CPM district committee office died in a collision between a tanker lorry and a scooter. T Thangachan (71) of Nalanchira Parottukonam Tilak Nagar Terivila house passed away in the accident. The accident happened near Palayam Fine Arts College at 6:30 yesterday morning. A lorry carrying milk hit the scooter driven by Thankachan. The tire of the lorry went through the body of Thangachan who fell from the scooter under the lorry. Locals took him to the Medical College Hospital but his life could not be saved.
Thangachan was an employee of Kairali-Sree Theatre, owned by Film Development Corporation. After retiring from there, he became an employee of the CPM District Committee Office. Wife: Usha Thangachan. Sons: T Umesh Kumar, T Ratheesh Kumar (Driver, AKG Centre) and late T Rajesh Kumar. Daughters-in-law: Sharanya Umesh and Arya Ratheesh. CPM State Secretary MV Govindan, State Secretariat Member Anavoor Nagappan, District Secretary V. Joy MLA and Kadakampally Surendran MLA paid their last respects. The museum police registered a case.
Kadakampally recollects his memories of Thangachan
Kadakampally Surendran MLA wrote an emotional post on Thangachan's death on Facebook. He said that he has been associated with Thangachan since 1982. Thangachan was like family. He started his career as a plantation worker in the Film Development Corporation. Later, when the CITU Union was started in the Film Development Corporation under Kadakampally's leadership, Thangachan became a member and active worker. Kadakampally was the district secretary of CPM when Thangachan retired. When Kadakampally was a minister, Thangachan was in charge of the official residence as well. Kadakampally also noted that Thangachan shifted to the district committee office again after Kadakampally vacated his ministerial position.
