KOCHI: Police have registered a case against 15 people, including a female student, in connection with the stabbing of SFI leader Nasser Abdul Rahman in Maharaja's College. Abdul Malik, a third year English student, is the first accused in the case registered by the Central Police. Nine counts have been charged against the accused including attempt to murder. The accused are KSU-Fraternity activists.

According to the FIR, the reason behind the attack was the protest against the Fraternity activists who attacked a differently-abled teacher. The college was closed indefinitely in the wake of the clash.

The attack took place this morning. As part of the MG University drama festival, drama training was being conducted in the campus. Nassar and some SFI workers were present in the campus as part of the organizing committee. The SFI activists say that the aggressors came here and attacked Nassar and those who were with him. Nasser was stabbed in the stomach and arms and legs. The attack was reportedly carried out with a knife, beer bottle and stick. Unit committee member Ashwathy was also injured.

Teacher brutally beaten

A student threatened to kill a differently-abled teacher of a college with a knife-like weapon after accusing him of being responsible for the suspension of his friend. He then proceeded to the principal's room, followed the teacher and hit him on the back of the head with the back of the weapon. Dr. KM Nizamuddin, a teacher of the Arabic section and a native of Nilambur, was the said teacher. Muhammad Rashid, a third year student of Arabic and a Fraternity worker, beat up the teacher. He ran away after the incident. A case has been registered on the teacher's complaint.

On January 13, the students of the Arabic department went on a study trip to Hyderabad. The teacher, who witnessed the Fraternity activist and classmate Bilan Shamsuddin beating up two students of the group in the train, got off at Aluva and told the internal investigation team. Bilal was suspended by the principal yesterday.

Bilal and the Fraternity allege that Nizamuddin is the culprit. Meanwhile, Rashid, who came to the Arabic section yesterday afternoon, tried to talk to Nizamuddin, but the teacher replied that he was not interested. An angry Rashid threatened to kill the teacher by brandishing a knife he was carrying. Rashid followed and beat him while he was climbing the stairs behind the college. The incident came to light when the injured teacher told his colleagues. He then sought treatment at Ernakulam Hospital.

After initial treatment, he left the hospital in the evening. Ernakulam Central Police reached the hospital and took Nizamuddin's statement. Rashid's hand was cut by a sharp weapon. Female fraternity activists filed a complaint with the principal, alleging that the teacher beat them and called them Islamists.

Bilal's arrival on the campus last day after suspension had led to SFI-Fraternity conflict. The teachers of Arabic, including Nizamuddin, who is also the staff coordinator of the college, asked the principal to take action against both the activists for the conflict that took place in front of the Arabic department.
