THRISSUR: After the Prime Minister visited the district twice in a fortnight, the graffiti asking people to help TN Prathapan win MP election has appeared again. The left-wing, is strengthening their struggles, protests and grassroots activities including human chain... When Thrissur is becoming the centre of attention at the national level, the ranks are bursting with enthusiasm.
Leader of the Opposition VD Satheesan and Prathapan highlighted the excitement of Thrissur. With Pratapan adding that Modi should come again and Thrissur is being noticed at the national level, it is clear that the Congress has calculated something. TN Pratapan MP had also challenged Modi to contest from Thrissur.

After AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, who will participate in the Maha Sammelan in Thrissur on February 4, most of the national leaders of the Congress are likely to reach the constituency for campaigning. At the same time, it is almost certain that leaders including Union Minister Amit Shah and BJP National President JP Nadda will campaign for the NDA. Political observers say that with a large number of CPM and CPI national leaders coming to campaign for LDF, Thrissur will be one of the biggest campaigning constituencies in Kerala. Thrissur will be the stage for a campaign that was not seen in the previous elections.

Who are the candidates?

In Thrissur, Alathur and Chalakudy, the UDF believes that there will be no opposition to the re-contesting of sitting MPs and the selection of candidates will not be a headache. Although Sureshgopi is confirmed in Thrissur, more discussions may be needed in the NDA for Chalakudy and Alathur candidates. With the constituent parties staking their claim, the NDA state executive meeting has decided to start the seat-sharing talks for the parliamentary elections next week. While the name of VS Sunilkumar of CPI in LDF is being circulated in Thrissur, there are also indications that NCP is raising the demand for Thrissur or Chalakudy.

NCP state president PC Chacko earlier represented Thrissur constituency in the Lok Sabha. NCP leaders think that they have a higher chance of winning in Chalakudy than in Thrissur. In Alathur, AK Balan tops the list of possible candidates.

Now to the discussions

After the grand conference, the UDF will enter into the election discussions. The conference is trying to unite the booth officials and come forward. It will also bring together leaders from the constituency committee to the AICC level. Through the conference, UDF is trying to mobilize the booth office bearers and come forward. It will also bring together leaders from the constituency committee to AICC level. At the same time, the NDA leadership believes that the foundation can be strengthened with the booth meeting on February 24.
