NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday rejected the petition filed against the restoration of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership. The apex court also imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh on the petitioner Ashok Pandey.
The court imposed the fine for wasting the court's time. The apex court also warned the petitioner not to come up with such frivolous petitions. Rahul Gandhi was reinstated as MP in August last year.
Rahul Gandhi had been disqualified from the post of MP on March 24 after he received the maximum sentence in a criminal defamation case. The Congress leader was reinstated as MP after a legal battle that lasted for months.
